Bela Lugosi’s Dead — Bauhaus : Often considered to be the first gothic rock single, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” refers to the Hungarian-American actor Bela Lugosi, famous for his role as Dracula in the 1931 Hollywood adaption of the Bram Stoker novel. Lugosi died in 1956, 23 years before the song was released.

About Crows

Crows is a monospaced serif whose styles trace a narrative, a trajectory: that of typefaces originally designed for institutional print and widely circulated—such as Century Schoolbook—which, decades later, were transferred, reproduced, and reworked for independent graphic uses, from dry-transfer lettering like Letraset to the DIY print culture of the late twentieth century. Crows brings this lineage into a contemporary system where structure, mechanical rhythm, and graphic friction coexist.

Its Regular style establishes a perfectly stable foundation: open counters, moderate contrast, firm serifs, and balanced proportions ensure readability across a wide range of sizes and reproduction conditions.

From this base, the family develops first through movement rather than redesign. The Rotated and Twisted styles retain the same underlying skeleton while shifting alignment, introducing calibrated tension within a unified framework. In the fixed-width logic of a monospaced grid, spacing becomes mechanical and even, making small deviations perceptible and turning alignment into an active visual parameter. The Stencil styles, in turn, extend the system through functional cuts that immediately evoke the worlds of marking and duplication.

Finally, a wide set of alternate glyphs allows Crows to assert itself as a typographic system that is as clear and efficient as it is playful, expressive, and multifaceted.
